NEW UT WEBSITE
We are delighted to launch our new website, designed and created under the expert guidance of the very talented Lian and Andrea Arthofer. You can visit it at https://utlondon.org and read about the history of the society and its links with Ticino, find pictures of past events and eventually learn about any upcoming new events and discover some new facts. An example of an interesting fact that not all of you may be aware of, is that extensive records of the UT history stretching back to 1874 but almost complete from the early 1920s, have been deposited with London Metropolitan Archives (Reference: LMA/4265) and a listing is available as part of the Discovery section of The National Archives website.

NEW LOGO
Alongside the website we have designed a new logo: it symbolises the historical roots of the society, and the interlinkage of Ticino and London, as well as the affiliation of the UT to the Swiss community in the UK.

UT GRAVES
Update by Peter Barber:

We kept you informed in our previous newsletters of progress with the conservation of the oldest Unione Ticinese grave, commemorating members who died between 1878 and 1897 (with the names and dates of the two two most recent having been added). You may have read the account of it in the latest Pro Ticino magazine.

Now that the work on all of the graves has been completed, we think you might like to see how they look now. There is a grave that we still have to locate covering the years 1898to 1911. But here are the graves for the years 1911-1914 (with clasped hands on the headstone, but no dates), the one in classical style, covering 1915-1919, then one with religious decoration, going from 1919 to 1922 and the final one – an obelisk surmounted by the Swiss cross and consisting of four graves in one – going from 1922 to 1944 (in November we plan to deal with the vegetation that has grown during the summer months).  The graves from 1945 to the present are in the St Pancras and Islington Cemetery in East Finchley.

STELLA EUSEBIO
A huge thank you to Stella Eusebio, who stands down from the committee and her role as membership secretary. Stella was elected onto the committee in 2011 and became Membership Secretary in 2012.

Peter Barber explains that her family’s links to the UT are equally important: Stella's father, Giuseppe Eusebio, was President of the Society between 1938 and 1942 and her grandmother and mother played leading roles in the Sezione Femminile (1939-55).  Her grandmother,  Teresina Lunghi-Rezzonico , was its first president, and her mother Rina was an active member.  Rina, incidentally, was extraordinary.  Some of you may remember when we celebrated her 100th birthday at the barbecue  in Hurstpierpoint in 2008, she was not only present and agile but gave a multi-lingual thank you speech!

Stella leaves big shoes to fill, and Karin Lanini Arthofer has ably taken handover as membership secretary.
