Visit to Waddesdon Manor

Unione Ticinese Outing

INFORMATION

On Sunday the 9th of June, there will be a fantastic opportunity to visit Waddesdon Manor, a magnificent French-style chateau set in beautiful grounds in the Chilterns. It was built for Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild in the 1870s to display his art collection, with treasures of all sorts, including the highest-quality paintings, furniture, silver and jewellery from the sixteenth century to the present day on view. The family, headed by the present Lord Rothschild, still remain very much involved and you have the chance to buy wines from the fabled Rothschild Bordeaux vineyards.

As a special treat, and thanks to the kindness of the Waddesdon curators, we will have the opportunity to see treasures that are not on display!

The tour will be guided my Mr Peter Barber, historian and past president of the Union Ticinese.

Numbers for the special tour are restricted to 10 so please book early (though if you are prepared to miss this, just turn up!). We shall be meeting in the car park for a picnic (weather allowing) at 12 and expect to begin touring the house at 1. At the end of the visit, we will enjoy a cup of tea and patisserie in the Manor.
